Haiti
My grandmother contributed to Doctors Without Borders every year. I made a contribution to their work in Haiti, with her in mind. If you’re like me, sitting in your kitchen doing pleasurable things, holding a singing baby, grateful for the amazing fortune you’ve happened upon, maybe you’ll do the same. Instead of take-out tonight, give that amount to the doctors who are trying to make it right.

I did exactly that yesterday morning. How could I not? We are so blessed with 3 healthy adult daughters and a grandbaby on the way, plenty of beautiful food to eat and a lovely, cozy cottage within which to live … I only wish I could afford to donate more. I chose DWB because I trust them to get the greatest percentage of every dollar donated directly to the people who are in need. I don’t trust the Red Cross or Unicef quite so much.
My heart is broken for the people of Haiti. I cannot wrap my mind around how much suffering they are enduring.
Both Katrina and Ike were fairly traumatic here … but the people of Haiti are suffering at least a thousand times more than any of us did.
I wish I had a magic wand to fix it all.
