Welcome to the continuing adventures of s/v Rubicon.
The s/v= sailing vessel. We are a family of four, Ellen, John, Sophie (3 yrs), and Rosy (1 yr), living on a 33-foot steel sailboat we call Rubicon.
We started blogging way back in 2004, just as we were leaving Boston aboard the first Rubicon, our Alberg 30.

You can find four years of stories, pictures, recipes, ruminations, and way too much information about childbirth at our first blog, Rudderless.
The new blog is a fresh start for us, as we’re about to start a new chapter in our lives, as a family of four, living, learning, and traveling aboard. Four months before Sophie was born, we bought the new Rubicon. John has spent the majority of the last four year’s weekends grinding, cutting, and welding. She is finally in the water, fully afloat. We are in love with her possibilities, as she is a true cruising boat- she can take us anywhere in the world.

Just where will that be? Well, that’s the story we’re writing, isn’t it?
Beyond the boat stuff, we are both professional captains, take pictures with a fancy camera, and both spend too much time on the internet. We homeschool, cloth-diaper, breastfeed, and co-sleep with our kids. We try to eat whole foods and grow herbs and sunflowers on our porch/dock/cockpit. We own 17 acres of undeveloped land in Maine. We enjoy geeky television like “How It’s Made” and “NOVA.” We listen to Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffith, Beth Orton, and U2. We miss New England.
